This I have to admit is one of my favorite Baking Projects I have done so far! If you didn't already know me and Alice both have taken a Food Technology/Hospitality course at school for our GCSE and although we have not made much yet this is one of my favorites.
In my opinion this makes an average size cake for about 3/4 people depending on how much you eat of course! So that is what this ingredients is made for however if you do want to serve more people make sure you change all the measurements and not just one as a Boy in my cooking class increase only the Flour! Lets just say it didn't turn out too good.
Equipment
- Weighing Scales
- Mixing Bowl
- Whisk or A Wooden Spoon
- Measuring Jug/Small Bowl
- Fork
- Sieve
- Wooden Spoon
- Cake Tin/ Foil Tray
Ingredients:
- 100g Caster Sugar
- 100g Soft Margarine
- 2 Eggs
- 100g Self Raising Powder
- 1 Eating Apple
- 1 Eating Apple
- 1 Teaspoon Cinnamon
- 1 Teaspoon Demerara Sugar
Method:
Method:
- First things first, in order to make the Cake cook as quick as possible it is super important that you preheat the Oven to 180°C or Gas Mark 4 depending on whether you have a Gas or Electric Oven. Please Ask Parents Permission!
- Next you have to prepare the Cake Tin or Foil Trays. For this step all you need to do is grease them! If you just have a spare bit of margarine that would be ideal.
- Cream the Caster Sugar and Margarine together with either your whisk or wooden spoon until they are light and smooth. To help you - if you can still see or feel the sugar in the bowl (it would be very gritty) then you need to keep on going if not then you are good to go!
- Leave that be and turn to your eggs. These need to be cracked into a small container. We used a Measuring Jug but you could use a Small Bowl or something similar. Beat your two eggs together with a fork.
- Now mix your flour and Baking Powder together, for this we just put the Baking Powder into to the container we had the flour in and shook it up!
- The Egg now needs to be added. But you must do it a little bit of egg, followed by a little bit of flour sieved in. Egg, Flour, Egg, Flour, Egg, Flour...... until it is all gone!
- Keep on mixing to make sure the products are all mixed nicely together. Now you just have a simple Cake Mixture.
- Spread the Mixture into the Cake Tin/Foil Containers!
- You are nearly done! Cut your apple into thing pieces. (In half then put it inside down and cut into thing slices downwards. If that makes sense :)
- Arrange the Apple Slices over the cake mix and spring a little bit of cinnamon and Demerara Sugar over the top and its good to go.
- Place in the oven and Bake for around 15-25 minutes. When you think its done (it will be golden brown) ask a parent/or do it yourself to check that it is springy and not soggy to touch.
- Allow to Cool!!
That's how to make a delicious Apple Dutch Cake. It is gorgeous served with Custard so why don't you give it a try?
Comment whether you followed the recipe! Or just if you want to give us your opinion!
