Books: May - Currently Reading

So we thought that since we do book reviews on our blog why not do a post telling you the Books we are currently reading and then if you want a full book review at a latter date then we can do that so here goes.....

Amie - Today, I actually started a new book called The Kite Runner by Khaled Hosseini. The book I just finished was by the same author called And The Mountains Echoed, which were both recommendations from my sister who had enjoyed both previously. I am going to do a review of And the Mountains Echoed after finishing my part in this post however I have not really got too far in this book to tell you much about it to be honest however just to give you a rough idea. Basically, all of Hosseini's books are based in Afganistan so the protagonist Amir is twelve years old in 1970s Afgan, he is desperate to win the local kite-fighting tournament so his loyal friend Hassan promises to help him. After a series of unfortunate events, that can not happen and Amir has to flee the country to America after the russian invasion. (most of this information is inferred from the Blurb) But the past can not stay in the past forever and Amir must return to his home county which is now under the Taliban rule. I am really looking forward to reading it!

Beth- Going to admit I'm not quite so quick on reading books as Alice and Amie are but I do think I'm improving haha. Anyways I am currently reading The Book Thief which Alice and Amie actually bought me as part of my birthday presents. I would say I'm about half way through it and I am in love with it! It is a really good story and narrated by death which is such a good and different perspective rather than just a person in the story. Just a quick run down on the book is that it is about mainly a girl named Liesel living in Nazi Germany around the time of World War 2. This alone is an interesting storyline but you also get flashbacks of her foster dads history and his past experiences which break up the story beautifully. We've also been doing about war in history at school so I've actually found it quite interesting reading a book with a different side of the story (the innocent/unaware people in Nazi Germany). Can't wait to see how the book progresses!

Alice - I am currently reading The Tragedy Paper by Elizabeth Laban. I bought this a couple of days ago and couldn't wait to start reading it! I am really liking it as it has two narrators to the story which gives it a lot more depth as you will see if you decide to buy it. A brief run down on it is quite hard to do as it is really complex but I will give you an extract of the blurb. "Every year at an exclusive boarding school in New York State, the graduating students uphold a historic tradition - they must all swear an oath of secrecy to leave behind a "treasure" for each incoming senior. When Duncan Meade inherits the room of Tim Macbeth, he uncovers evidence of a clandestine romance, and unravels the truth behind one of the biggest mysteries in the school's history". It is a great book and will definitely keep you on your toes. I can't wait to unravel the full picture myself!
